What to expect

A step-by-step guide to our trainee recruitment process

Your journey to joining us

Choosing where to start your career is a big decision. We want you to feel confident that PKF Francis Clark is the right place for you, so our recruitment process is designed to help you learn as much about us as we learn about you.

We offer a range of early careers opportunities for school, college and university leavers, including AAT, AAT/ACA, ACA and ATT/CTA training programmes.

Applications open each year in late September. We encourage you to apply as early as possible, as programmes may close once all available places have been filled. If vacancies remain, additional application windows may open later in the recruitment season.

From September onwards, we attend and host a variety of careers events where you can meet our people, learn more about our training programmes and hear first-hand what it’s like to build your career with us.

Our early careers recruitment process:

  • Apply online – Complete our application form and answer a series of questions about your studies, achievements and interest in a career with PKF Francis Clark.

  • Online assessment – You'll be invited to complete a series of online assessments designed to measure a range of skills relevant to the role.

  • Video interview – Candidates who perform strongly during the assessment stage may be invited to complete a video interview.u

  • Assessment centre – Following our review of applications, assessments and video interviews, shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an assessment centre at our Torquay office.

  • Outcome and feedback – We'll let you know the outcome as quickly as possible. We are also committed to providing constructive feedback to candidates who reach the later stages of our recruitment process.

Set yourself up for success

Applying for jobs can feel daunting, but being well prepared is one of the best ways to build confidence and perform at your best. We’ve put together some practical tips to help you understand what to expect, prepare for interviews and assessment centres, and showcase your skills, strengths and potential.

Do your research

Take some time to explore our website and social media channels. It’s also important to research the qualification you’d like to study with us and understand what the role involves. We’re not looking for expert knowledge, but we do want to see that you’ve taken the time to learn about PKF Francis Clark and the opportunity you’re applying for. We also encourage you to familiarise yourself with our values and think about how they align with your own experiences and aspirations.

AI and your application

We don’t mind whether or not you use AI tools when applying. If you do choose to use them, we encourage you to do so thoughtfully and responsibly. Remember that AI should support your application, not replace your own experiences, skills and motivations. To help you get the most out of AI throughout the recruitment process, we’ve put together a best practice guide.

Assessment centre

Our assessment centres are designed to give you a realistic insight into life at PKF Francis Clark, while helping us understand more about your strengths, skills and potential. You’ll have the opportunity to meet people from across the firm, learn more about our culture and training programmes, and hear directly from current trainees about their experiences. Tips for answering interview questions

You can find great practice interview questions via Google. You might like to use the STAR method to answer them:

  • Situation – the situation you were dealing with

  • Task – the task you were given to do

  • Action – the action you took

  • Result – what happened and what you learned from the experience

Our top tips

“The sooner you apply the better. We consider applications as we receive them and make offers as we go. We can only take a given number of trainees at each one of our eight locations. Apply early and you are much more likely to get your first choice of location.” Joe, Recruiter
“You can expect your interviewer(s) to ask you about how you have handled previous situations with your career. It’s possible to prepare for this type of questioning by making a list of your skills/strengths and prepare an example of a time when you displayed each of these qualities. Your example should clearly explain the situation, task, action, and results – often referred to as the STAR approach” Jim, Resourcing Manager
