Trainee Chartered Tax Adviser

“We generally go off-site to study in blocks of a few days, and this is split between teaching and revision courses. The training is quite demanding at the start, but you quickly begin to feel more comfortable as you can apply what you are learning in your day-to-day role. As every topic is studied over a few months we have enough time to consolidate what we have learnt ahead of the exam.”

I joined as a graduate trainee and I was surprised by how quickly I have been integrated into the team. Everyone has been really helpful and approachable, and I have thoroughly enjoyed my first few months with the firm!

I really wanted to learn about something in great depth. Chartered Tax Adviser is the most prestigious chartered qualification in the tax discipline so this route really appealed to me.

The work of a Chartered Tax Adviser is split across two areas. The first is the compliance work which includes the preparation of tax returns for our clients. The second is the advisory side of things, where we help clients to organise their tax affairs efficiently. It has been great to be able to contribute to client work right from the start and to gain experience of the different disciplines of tax with the help and support of more experienced colleagues.

The resources and support available from the external training provider are excellent, and you’re constantly gaining more experience at work, so you feel well prepared for the exams. I have been surprised by the breadth of internal training that we have received from the firm, which should hopefully set us all up really well for the years to come.”
