Nancy
AAT trainee accountant
“I find work-study balance is good with AAT. Every week I have one day out at college and this constant allocated time keeps my learning on track. At exam time it can be a bit trickier with revising after work, but you never have many exams close together so you can always spread the revision.”
“I was in Year 13 and I knew that university wasn’t for me but I still wanted to go into a professional career. I was initially looking into apprenticeships in law when I saw that you could also do an apprenticeship in accounting.
I found out that whether or not you go to university doesn’t influence how far you can go as an accountant. So I joined straight from sixth form college, receiving my grades for A-levels in English Literature, History and Philosophy on my third day with the firm.
The best things about working here are the amazing and friendly people and the constant support. There will always be someone to ask, and if they don’t know the answer they will often find you someone who does.
I am completing my AAT training in the Business Services team. We are a large team, but day-to-day we work in smaller teams which means you get to know the people working around you really well. I was assigned a buddy and a mentor who both made me feel really welcome. I didn’t expect there to be as many socials as there are, but they are always a lot of fun and are a great way to meet new people.

My ambition is to complete my AAT level 3 and 4 which will qualify me as an Accountant. Then I aim to progress to become a Chartered Accountant, and I know the firm will support me all the way.”
