VAT manager

“What I like about the firm is that we have such a variety of people and personalities and that you can be yourself. VAT is such a complex and varied tax that I think it often benefits to see problems from different perspectives. Being able to discuss and debate matters openly in a friendly and enabling environment allows me to feel like I can take my career where I want it to go.”

“There are so many things I enjoy about my job, but the best thing about it is the people. I have built great relationships with clients who I enjoy visiting and helping with the ever-growing complexities of VAT, it’s good to know that I’m taking away their VAT worries. I also enjoy managing my team and training juniors or colleagues from other departments. It’s great getting to watch people develop and succeed, and the partners and directors are all so approachable and willing to support me too.

I have always felt that I could achieve anything I aspired to here. I joined PKF Francis Clark as a graduate with no previous background in accounting or tax. In fact my degree was in Zoology and I was training to be an ecology consultant before I decided to change career paths. I’ve since progressed from trainee to Senior, to Assistant Manager and now VAT Manager with the firm.

I am now working towards a senior management role and have taken on new responsibilities as a Regional Manager in the VAT team. I never would have guessed I would end up in VAT but I enjoy every aspect of the role – the complexities, the variety and opportunity to help businesses of all sizes. Some people might think of accounting and finance as laborious but spend a day here and you would see that really isn’t the case. No two days are ever the same!

What I like about the firm is that we have such a variety of people and personalities and that you can be yourself. VAT is such a complex and varied tax that I think it often benefits to see problems from different perspectives. I would feel lost without my work family. Being able to discuss and debate matters openly in a friendly and enabling environment allows me to feel like I can take my career where I want it to go, and I know I’ll be supported every step of the way.”
